Mobile navigation devices are becoming more and more popular. Thanks to their compact design, the little pilots can be installed in any car in no time and then serve as unerring portable guides through city road networks. And the devices make themselves useful in many other ways. This is why Becker decided to extend their product portfolio by launching Traffic Assist, a navigation device that combines outstanding mobility and a remarkable navigation radius with a 1-GB SD (Secure Digital) map. It offers a brilliant map display and the excellent user comfort expected from Becker.

With Traffic Assist, Becker follows the trend towards mobile navigation solutions. To come to the point: The device is supplied with a massive 1-GB SD card, on which, depending on the delivery country, comprehensive map data for up to 21 countries are pre-stored. They also contain an extensive array of special destinations such as service areas, hotels and petrol stations, which are shown on the map.

Also included in the scope of delivery is a DVD, holding navigation data for 27 European countries* in three useful groups. Each of these country files can be transferred to the SD card, simply via the existing USB interface.

Becker Traffic Assist comes with an integrated GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. Another part of the equipment package is the GPS areal, which can be unfolded in areas of poor satellite reception. The device does not require a speedometer signal. It is simply and quickly mounted on the windscreen or dashboard, using the mounting set supplied with the product. The viewing angle can be adjusted to any position.

Two standard rechargeable batteries provide independence of car electrics and allow navigation in care-free town centers. The batteries are charged automatically as soon as the device is connected to the on-board power supply.

Operation of the Becker Traffic Assist is as easy as it can get, so that even beginners get an intuitive grasp of all its functions: Simply press a button and the start menu offers four large touch screens on the 3.5-inch TFT display, for navigation, music, images, and settings. Each of these touch-sensitive fields leads to further control and setting options clearly assigned to the respective function and screen display.

Under "Navigation", for instance, you will find a large, full-screen "logic speller" for entering your destination. Once you have entered the first letter, the display shows only such further letters that would combine to a meaningful town or street name, and all this in a driver-friendly way with raised and easy-to-read touch screens. Consequently, in the country selection menu only such countries are listed that are actually stored on the SD card.

Another remarkable feature of the Becker Traffic Assist is the quick call-up of the 30 most recent destinations, or of personal favorites. This function is very helpful as destinations marked out as such are always shown first on the list and are protected against inadvertent deletion.

Destination guidance by Becker Traffic Assist is carried out in a brilliant 3D or, optionally, 2D map display. The color scheme is modern and unobtrusive for optimal readability. Clear symbols provide additional support for the piloting. The zooming in of symbols and text at every change of direction is very useful, too. The voice directions are always clear, and can be switched on and off. And the user can choose from 15 languages.

Additionally, the unit features an integrated MP3/WMA player for listening to music stored on the SD card, using headphones. A picture viewer allows displaying photos stored as jpg files, making it compatible with most digital cameras. Large touch screens offer further setting options for both these functions.
